The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Russell H. Mulraine (ASN: 42179322), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 253d Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 7 April 1945, in the vicinity of Kressbach, Germany. Private Mulraine gallantly and with no regard for his personal safety, rose from a covered position and in the face of intense enemy fire ran across an open draws in order to deliver ammunition to a machine gun. As he was making his last valiant rush to reach his squad, he was killed by the enemy machine gun fire. The outstanding gallantry under fire of Private Mulraine reflects the highest credit upon himself and is in keeping with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
