(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Sergeant August J. Mazzarello (ASN: 32529010), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 253d Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 8 April 1945, in action against the enemy in the vicinity of Kressbach, Germany. Sergeant Mazzarello, his company pinned down by machine gun and small arms fire, immediately took charge to place automatic weapons (remainder of citation missing.) His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 65th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
