Headquarters, 63d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 247 (June 15, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Lloyd D. Boyce (ASN: 38431010), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 253d Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 22 February 1945, in the vicinity of Kleinblittersdorf, Germany. During an attack on a factory near Kleinblittersdorf, Sergeant Boyce’s platoon was pinned down by artillery, small arms, machine gun, and mortar fire. Sergeant Boyce located the enemy machine gun position and brought a Browning Automatic Rifle team forward to establish a base of fire. He then crawled forward over 250 yards of open field and entered the trench held by the enemy, killing one and forcing the rest to retreat to the factory. Sergeant Boyce’s leadership and courage under fire reflect credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
