The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Lloyd Miller (ASN: 34095818), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 19 March 1945, in the vicinity of Ensheim, Germany. During the attack on the Siegfried Line, Private Miller laid wire under a heavy barrage of artillery, mortar and sniper fire. In order to keep the friendly armor from cutting the line, Private Miller climbed a tree along the road to string his wire. It was while descending from a tree that Private Miller was killed by a nearby shell burst. The intrepidity with which Private Miller accomplished his mission was an inspiration to all those who witnessed his action. The courage and gallantry under fire of Private Miller reflect high credit upon himself and upon the Armed Forces of the United States.
