The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant Other C. Woolverton (ASN: 34887871), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 12 April 1945, in the vicinity of Haag, Germany. When, in the light of the blazing town, Company C was pinned down by heavy machine gun fire, Sergeant Woolverton fired three rifle grenades at the enemy machine gun. Failing to knock out the machine gun, he ran to the rear, procured a Browning Automatic Rifle, and brought it to bear on the enemy position. When the machine gun continued to fire, he secured a rocket launcher and, from the left flank, fired four rounds which destroyed the enemy weapon, thereby enabling the company to advance. The magnificent courage and outstanding gallantry under fire of Staff Sergeant Woolverton reflect the highest credit upon himself and are in keeping with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
