Headquarters, 63d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 221 (June 11, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant [then Private] Frank H. Myrick (ASN: 34026667), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 253d Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 6 April 1945, in the vicinity of Buchhof, Germany. Crossing fifty yards of open ground under direct enemy machine gun fire, Sergeant Myrick placed his machine gun in action. The accurate fire from his weapon compelled the enemy to discontinue firing and at the same time gave his platoon the cover necessary to permit advance against the enemy position which had hitherto held up the advance of the company. This heroic act enabled the unit to take their objective with a minimum of casualties. The courage and gallantry under fire of Sergeant Myrick reflect the highest credit upon himself and are in keeping with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
