The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Robert J. Scott (ASN: 35242407), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 255th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 6 April 1945, in the vicinity of Herbolsheim, Germany. Without regard for his personal safety, Private First Class Scott crawled toward an enemy machine gun position that was blocking the company’s route of withdrawal. Though wounded, he destroyed the machine gun position with a hand grenade. The courage and outstanding gallantry under fire of Private First Class Scott reflect high credit upon himself and are in keeping with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
