The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Peter Romano (ASN: 42083207), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with 63d Reconnaissance Troop, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 31 March 1945, in the vicinity of Neckarburken, Germany. At the risk of his life Private First Class Romano evacuated two wounded soldiers from the battlefield by placing them in a vehicle and driving them to an aid station. Although Private First Class Romano had never driven a vehicle before, he drove through machine gun and small arms fire, being wounded himself in the process. The courage and initiative displayed by Private First Class Romano were an inspiration to all who witnessed his actions and contributed greatly to the comfort of the wounded under fire. The bravery and outstanding devotion to duty of Private First Class Romano, under hazardous conditions, reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
