The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Norbert J. Guindon (ASN: 36830872), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Battery C, 862d Field Artillery Battalion, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 17 – 18 March 1945, in the vicinity of Ensheim, Germany. During the initial attack on the Siegfried Line, Technician Fifth Grade Guidon, in the face of intense enemy fire, accompanied the leading elements of an assault platoon, carrying a heavy radio. Throughout the action, which continued for more than twenty-four hours, he remained in exposed positions and maintained radio communication. When the enemy launched two counterattacks, Technician Fifth Grade Guindon, despite the burden of his radio, established outpost communications under enemy small arms and artillery fire. On many occasions it was necessary that he act in the capacity of a rifleman, aiding greatly in repulsing the enemy and inflicting heavy casualties. The magnificent courage and outstanding gallantry under fire of Technician Fifth Grade Guindon reflect the highest credit upon himself and are in keeping with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
