The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Carl A. Schroeder (ASN: 37010568), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 740th Tank Battalion, 63d Infantry Division, in action from 20 March 1945 to 23 March 1945, in Germany. The platoon of which Private First Class Schroeder was a member was given the mission of penetrating the Siegfried Line. In spite of the accurate enemy fire directed on his tank, Private First Class Schroeder stayed with it until a direct hit killed him. The magnificent courage and outstanding gallantry under fire of Private First Class Schroeder reflect the highest credit upon himself and are in keeping with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
