The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Julius P. Dargenio (ASN: 32725141), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 18 March 1945, in the vicinity of Ensheim, Germany. During an attack on the Siegfried line defenses, Sergeant Dargenio courageously exposed himself, continually moving among his men encouraging and directing their fire. Many times he eliminated enemy snipers which were firing on his platoon. His superior leadership and courageous action enabled his unit to obtain its objective. During this action, Sergeant Dargenio was mortally wounded. The magnificent courage and outstanding gallantry under fire of Sergeant Dargenio reflect the highest credit upon himself and are in keeping with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
