The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Bobby Joe Cozart (ASN: 38633965), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 18 March 1945, in the vicinity of Ensheim, Germany. Private Cozart, a member of an assault team attacking the Siegfried Line defenses, fought his way forward alone, throwing hand grenades and using whatever weapons available. In the final phase of the assault, he was mortally wounded. The intrepidity with which Private Cozart performed this heroic act was an inspiration to all those who witnessed his actions. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
