The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Floyd T. Carr, Jr. (ASN: 37633991), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company I, 3d Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 17 March 1945, in the vicinity of Ensheim, Germany. When his company command post was attacked by a strong enemy force and it became necessary to withdraw, Sergeant Carr, with utter disregard for personal safety, remained at his post and covered the withdrawal of his men while being subjected to heavy enemy small arms fire, hand grenades and Panzerfaust. Sergeant Carr was mortally wounded the following morning while further defending his position. The magnificent courage and outstanding gallantry under fire of Sergeant Carr reflect the highest credit upon himself and are in keeping with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
