The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Robert C. Wright (ASN: 31350106), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 253d Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 18 February 1945, in the vicinity of Hanweiler, Germany. During an attack on Hanweiler, Sergeant Wright continuously exposed himself to hostile fire when the platoon of which he was a member was trapped by enemy machine gun fire. Skillfully firing his light machine gun, Sergeant Wright knocked out the two enemy machine gun emplacements, then led the platoon through enemy minefields and under heavy mortar fire to assault the town and clear it of enemy resistance. The magnificent courage and outstanding gallantry under fire of Sergeant Wright reflect the highest credit upon himself and are in keeping with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
