The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Third Grade Kenneth M. McDonald (ASN: 37243273), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 253d Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 16 March 1945, in the vicinity of Fechingen, Germany. When a truck traveling along a narrow road struck a mine and was thrown into a minefield, pinning its occupants beneath the truck, Technician Third Grade McDonald, with utter disregard for personal safety, walked through the minefield and administered first aid to the wounded men. The outstanding gallantry displayed by Technician Third Grade McDonald was an inspiration to all who witnessed his actions and reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
