The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Roy A. Kasner (ASN: 35227604), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 253d Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 16 March 1945, in the vicinity of Eschringen, Germany. Observing the position of an enemy machine gun harassing his company, Sergeant Kasner emerged from cover and exposed himself to small arms fire to assault the machine gun nest, firing as he worked forward. He killed four of the enemy and wounded four others during the ensuing action. The courage displayed by Sergeant Kasner was an inspiration to all who witnessed his actions and contributed greatly to the repulsing of the enemy counterattack. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
