The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Glenn D. George (ASN: 38399897), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 740th Tank Battalion, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 18 March 1945, in the vicinity of St. Ingbert, Germany. Sergeant George, in command of the first platoon, reached the Dragon’s Tooth of the Seigfried Line but was unable to proceed with his tank because of a crater which had been blown in the earth. He immediately called for a dozer to fill the crater, but when it arrived the crew was unwilling to brave the heavy enemy artillery and small arms fire in the area. Realizing he could not accomplish his mission unless his tank went through the gap, Sergeant George, with utter disregard for personal safety, dismounted from his tank and operating the dozer himself, filled the crater under a hail of murderous enemy fire. He then remounted his tank and led his platoon through the gap to its objective. The outstanding gallantry and courage displayed by Sergeant George served as an inspiration to his men and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
