The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Benjamin Carb (ASN: 33696363), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Battery C, 863d Field Artillery Battalion, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 14 March 1945, in the vicinity of Hiespransbach, Germany. During an attack across open ground, Sergeant Carb displayed outstanding bravery and initiative. Later, although under hostile fire, he advanced alone, approaching dugouts and emplacements successfully and managed to persuade the enemy to surrender. Sergeant Carb was responsible for the capture of fifteen prisoners and by persuading them to surrender, he saved the attacking party from many casualties. His outstanding gallantry in action is in accord with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
