The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” (Army Award) to Master Sergeant Christopher J. Banks, United States Air Force, for heroic achievement in connection with ground combat operations as an Advisor, NATO Air Training Command-Afghanistan/438th Air Expeditionary Wing, NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan and Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan during Operation ENDURING FREEDOM on 27 April 2011. A hostile assailant opened fire upon United States Personnel at the Air Command and Control Center. Displaying a presence of mind despite an unknown tactical situation, he entered the building multiple times to aid the casualties and in doing so saved the lives of his fellow servicemen. Master Sergeant Banks’ actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect distinct credit upon himself, NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan and Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan, and the United States Air Force.
