The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star (Army Award) to Commander John D. Nell, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious service while deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM as the Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Interior (MOI) Chief of Personnel and as the Chief of the Afghan National Police Personnel Division, CJ1, NATO Training Mission – Afghanistan and Combined Security Transition Command – Afghanistan. Commander Nell’s leadership, expertise, and vision were instrumental in the development of capacity in the MOI. His outstanding performance of duty in a combat zone reflects great credit upon himself, the NATO Training Mission – Afghanistan and the Combined Security Transition Command – Afghanistan and the United States Navy.
