The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Third Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Fourth Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain (Infantry) George E. Bean (ASN: 0-1294964), United States Army, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving with Headquarters Company, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. During the period from 19 November to 27 November 1950, Captain Bean completed fifty combat missions in support of the 25th Infantry Division. Despite anti-aircraft and small arms fire and hazards of weather and mountainous terrain, he flew close-in missions to spot targets for United Nations aircraft and obtain valuable reconnaissance information. His untiring and courageous work was of inestimable value to the success of Division operations and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
