Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 84 (August 27, 1950)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Corbin H. Bridges (ASN: RA-6952795), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division in Korea. When the position of Company C was attacked by enemy forces on 24 July 1950 in the vicinity of Sanga-yong, Korea, Sergeant First Class Bridges led his squad to a position twenty yards from an enemy tank which was delivering withering machine gun fire on the advancing squad, and fired three rounds on the tank with a 3.5 rocket launcher. When four members of the tank crew abandoned their tank, one was killed and the other three sought cover in a nearby ditch. Sergeant First Class Bridges, although exposed to fire from two men still in the tank, advanced to the edge of the ditch, threw a grenade and then fired into the group with his carbine, killing all three. The remaining two crew members in the tank were disposed of by grenades thrown into the open turret of the tank. Through his outstanding heroism and leadership, Sergeant First Class Bridges removed a formidable obstruction to the battalion advance. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
