The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Technical Sergeant Mark Dennis (AFSN: AF-11830165), United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life in the Alert Aircraft Parking Area, Griffiss Air Force Base, New York, on 10 August 1982. On that date, Sergeant Dennis rushed to the scene of a fire which ignited when a fuel trailer containing approximately 500 gallons of jet fuel overturned. Without regard for his own personal safety and at direct risk to his own life, Sergeant Dennis manned a nearby fire bottle and fought the fire until it was extinguished. As a result of Sergeant Dennis’ response, loss of life and damage to vital resources was prevented. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Sergeant Dennis reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
