The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Warrant Officer Eric Wyckoff Taylor, United States Army, for heroism while participating in aerial flight by voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Warrant Officer Taylor distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 18 February 1970 while serving as a Pilot near Dong Phong. Learning that a friendly unit was in heavy contact and running low on ammunition, Warrant Officer Taylor volunteered to fly to the area to re-supply the troops. With complete disregard for his own safety, he repeatedly exposed himself to intense enemy fire as he skillfully maneuvered his craft into the small landing zone to deliver troops and ammunition. As the helicopter was settling down, it took a direct hit from an enemy rocket, halting his valiant efforts to aid the ground unit. Warrant Officer Taylor’s outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
