The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Julius H. Krueger (ASN: 0-1307423), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 2d Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division, in action on 10 November 1944, near Pagny, France. When heavy enemy automatic, mortar and artillery fire caused numerous casualties among our forces, Lieutenant Krueger, a forward observer, maneuvered to a position where he could direct fire. Despite the intensity of the enemy assaults, he remained exposed and accurately directed our fire which resulted in the frustration of an enemy counterattack and the annihilation of large enemy forces. The superlative manner in which Lieutenant Krueger directed our fire enabled our forces to accomplish their mission. His indomitable courage and intrepid actions reflect great credit upon himself and the armed forces.
