The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major General [then Brigadier General] Edward Michael Powers (ASN: 0-11319), United States Army Air Forces, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility as Army Air Forces Representative and as Administrator, Aircraft Scheduling Unit, Army Air Forces Materiel Center Wright Field, Dayton, Ohio, from May 1942 to October 1943; as an Army member, Joint Production Survey Committee, U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff from October 1943 to June 1944; Deputy Assistant Chief of Air Staff, Materiel, Maintenance and Distribution from June 1944 to May 1945; and as a member of the Joint-Army-Navy Postwar Army-Navy Training in Industrial Mobilization, Washington, D.C. , from May 1945 to October 1945. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Powers and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
