(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal (Army Design) to Lieutenant General Emery Scott Wetzel (AFSN: 464A), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility as Chief of Staff, United Nations Command, Korea, with additional duty as Chief of Staff, U.S. Forces in Korea, from September 1959 to August 1961. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Lieutenant General Wetzel culminate a long and distinguished career in the service of his country and his dedicated contributions reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Colonel (Air Corps) Emery Scott Wetzel (AFSN: 464A), United States Army Air Forces, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Chief of the War Department General Staff’s Personnel Group during World War II. His outstanding services in the advice, selection and assignment of qualified key personnel contributed to the Allied success in the global conflict. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Wetzel and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Legion of Merit to Lieutenant General Emery Scott Wetzel (AFSN: 464A), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commander of the Military Air Transport Services’ Atlantic Division, Westover Air Force Base, Massachusetts, from 1956 to 1959. During General Wetzel’s command, a total of 5,000 round trips to the frozen Arctic and 25,000 trips across the Atlantic were reached without a passenger fatality while transporting thousands of personnel and tons of cargo. This was a command which had a peacetime mission of maintaining and exercising a fleet in support of Strategic Air Command and other defense forces and government agencies while training for a wartime mission. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Wetzel and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
