    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Daniel W. Pauley, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious service while serving as the Platoon Leader in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. His outstanding leadership, expertise, and devotion to duty directly led to the success of the unit’s mission. Second Lieutenant Pauley’s actions are in keeping with the highest honors and traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 1113th Transportation Company, the 152d Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, the 101st Sustainment Brigade, the 1st Sustainment Command (Theater), and the United States Army.
    NARRATIVE TO ACCOMPANY AWARD:
    Second Lieutenant Daniel W. Pauley distinguished himself by exceptionally meritorious service as Platoon Leader for the 1113th Transportation Company, Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan from 15 July 2013 to 2 March 2014 during Operation Enduring Freedom. 2LT Pauley’s attention to detail, dedication to duty, and determination were instrumental in the success of the 1113th Transportation Company’s mission to both provide logistical support to warfighters, but also to provide direct retrograde support to Multi-National Base Tarin Kowt (MNBTK), Afghanistan. 2LT Pauley was assigned as Convoy Commander, Convoy Escort Team One, for multiple Tactical Convoy Operations. They accumulated 2,000 miles under three battle space owners, two provinces, and servicing 11 forward operating bases throughout the entirety of the deployment on some of the region’s most kinetic routes. The confidence of his command led to him being chosen to be the forward logistics element commander, with supervision of 36 Soldiers, for the retrograde of MNB-TK. 2LT Pauley’s knowledge and abilities allowed him to flawlessly supervise the retrograde operations which consisted of convoy escort, material handling, fueler, and maintenance teams. 2LT Pauley oversaw the movement of 2,587 containers with a combined weight of over 20,000,000 pounds. The movement of the containers was in addition to the 4,377 palletized loads moved and 68,000 gallons of fuel supplied. With a fleet of 28 vehicles used daily, the operational readiness rate for the Tarin Kowt fleet consistently averaged above 98 percent. 2LT Pauley turned in and transferred 119 items of theater provided equipment, to include 21 pieces of rolling stock, totaling over $30,000,000. 2LT Pauley’s commitment to excellence led to him being appointed as 15th Sustainment Brigade Liaison Officer (LNO) for Combined Team Uruzgan. He consistently and assiduously performed the duties that were demanded of him in a commendable and proficient manner.
