The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Specialist Fourth Class Lewis W. Bruchey, United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam,. Specialist Fourth Class Bruchey distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving with Company H (Ranger), 75th Infantry (Airborne), 1st Cavalry Division, on 18 October 1970, while serving as a rifleman in the Republic of Vietnam. When his unit made contact with an enemy force, Specialist Fourth Class Bruchey moved forward to place suppressive fire on the hostile positions. His gallant action is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
