(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Staff Sergeant Carlos Velazquez-Valdes, United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, on 1 December 1970. On that date, Staff Sergeant Velazquez-Valdes rushed into the area where a serious aircraft fire had developed during a hot refueling operation. With complete disregard for his own safety, despite the imminent danger of a massive explosion, entered the fire to help render fire fighting and lifesaving aid. By his courageous action and humanitarian regard for his fellowman, Staff Sergeant Velazquez-Valdes has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
