(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Airman First Class Donald H. Tilley, United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, on 1 December 1970. On that date, Airman First Class Tilley rushed into the area where a serious aircraft fire had developed during a hot refueling operation. With complete disregard for his own safety, despite the imminent danger of a massive explosion, entered the fire to help render fire fighting and lifesaving aid. By his courageous action and humanitarian regard for his fellowman, Airman First Class Tilley has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
