The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class William F. Bayuk (ASN: 33765100), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 317th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in France, on 14 September 1944, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States. At the Moselle River, Private First Class Bayuk, disregarding personal safety, and exposing himself to severe artillery concentrations, carried a wounded comrade to safety. Despite the increasing intensity of enemy fire, he remained in his hazardous position to destroy three hostile tanks. Private First Class Bayuk’s courage and devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
