The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class William M. Sneed (ASN: 38653226), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Military Police Platoon, 80th Infantry Division, in France, on 21 November 1944 and 25 November 1944, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States. At the Seille River, Private First Class Sneed voluntarily rowed a thirteen-man patrol across the river under intense hostile artillery fire. Near St. Avold, France, despite a painful wound, he again exposed himself to the enemy concentrations to administer aid to two seriously wounded comrades. Private First Class Sneed’s courage and sincere devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
