The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Reuben Calvert, United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile enemy force while serving with Company D, 2nd Battalion (Airmobile), 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, in action against the enemy in the Kingdom of Cambodia. First Lieutenant Calvert distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions on 9 May 1970, while serving as a platoon leader in the Kingdom of Cambodia. When his platoon became ambushed by a large enemy force, First Lieutenant Calvert rushed to the point of heaviest contact and laid down a base of suppressive fire on the hostiles. He then ran from place to place checking and positioning his men. As a result of his actions, his platoon was able to overcome the enemy forces, saving many lives. His gallant actions are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
