The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Master Sergeant Carl D. Martin (ASN: RA-20821589), United States Army, for heroism in action against the enemy while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, in action against the enemy on 10 October 1950 near Kaesong, Korea. When the forward elements of his platoon, along with the platoon leader, were cut off by an enemy ambush, Master Sergeant Martin, exposed to small arms fire, immediately reorganized the remaining party of his platoon, and attacked the enemy with such force that the forward elements of his platoon were able to withdraw to safety with a minimum of casualties. Master Sergeant Martin’s outstanding display of heroism and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
