The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Staff Sergeant Ernest F. Medieros (ASN: 31299349), United States Army, for heroism at Leaog, Luzon, Philippine Islands, while serving with the 11th Airborne Division on 13 August 1945. Staff Sergeant Medieros was thrown from the plane by the crash and suffered a dislocated shoulder and a broken nose, as well as numerous cuts and burns. While in this contrition, he, with the help of another soldier who was also suffering from burns, bruises , and numerous lacerations, at great danger to himself, he extricated from the burning plane about eighteen soldiers, four of whom were already dead. He then helped one man who had been burned to the 4th pot able hospital about one and one half miles away, and showed the aid man at the hospital to the trail to where the plane had crashed. Staff Sergeant Medieros’ actions show great courage, a high sense of loyalty, and reflect great credit on the military service.
