The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant John A. Dulisse (ASN: 33586629), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 11th Airborne Division, in action against the enemy on Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 3 February 1945. During the attack on a reinforced parachute infantry regiment on Tagaytay Ridge, the assault battalion became subjected to intermittent heavy concentrations of enemy machine gun and mortar fire. In the course of this action the operator of the Regimental Commander’s radio was wounded; Staff Sergeant Dulisse volunteered to replace the wounded man and operate the radio set. In spite of the heavy concentration of fire, he worked his way to the radio, which was 400 yards away, and put it in operation. Once again the Regimental Commander was able to pass on instructions to the Battalion Commanders for the coordination of a maneuver to outflank the enemy at this time, the Regimental commander was wounded and Staff Sergeant Dulisse rushed to his aid. The devotion to duty and daring courage of Staff Sergeant Dulisse are in keeping with the finest traditions of the military service and were an inspiration to all members of the command.
