    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal (Posthumously) to Sergeant Major Larry L. Strickland, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States from 10 September 1991 to 11 September 2001, while serving in a variety of demanding duty positions of increasing responsibility and trust, culminating as Sergeant Major of the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel. His outstanding leadership qualities, devotion to duty, technical expertise, and tireless work on behalf of soldiers have contributed significantly to not only those units to which he was assigned, but to the Army overall. Sergeant Major Stricklands outstanding performance of duty is in keeping with the highest traditions of military service reflects great credit upon himself, the United States Army, and the United States of America.
