The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pride in presenting the Soldier’s Medal (Posthumously) to Warrant Officer One Ronald P. Bucca, United States Army Reserve, for heroism above and beyond the call of duty on 11 September 2001, as a firefighter for the New York City Fire Department, during a vicious and savage attack on the United States by terrorist forces. Warrant Officer One Bucca was working in the Fire Department of Manhattan when two jet aircraft deliberately crashed into the Twin Towers f the World Trade Center. As one of the first firefighters on the scene, he heroically charged into the burning skyscraper, evacuating civilians and attempting to put out the ensuing blaze. In the course of his duties, as Warrant Officer One Bucca risked his life and saved countless people from the burning building, the 110-story building collapsed, burning him in the wreckage. His courage, valiant dedication to service and heroic fulfillment of his duties as a Warrant Officer and Fire Marshall are an inspiration to all Americans. Warrant Officer One Bucca’s devotion to service and to the people of America resulted in his making the ultimate sacrifice and is testament of his bravery, reflecting great credit upon himself, the United States Army Reserve, the United States Army, and the United States of America.
