The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal [then Private First Class] Warren K. Ford, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2nd Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Hoengsong, Korea, on 12 February 1951. On this date, Corporal Ford’s unit was engaged in a firefight with an enemy who had infiltrated the lines. While serving as company runner, Corporal Ford, with complete disregard for his own personal safety, exposed himself to withering enemy machine gun, mortar, and small arms fire, to organize the company into an effective fighting force. He then organized a litter team to remove a wounded officer to a position of safety. The gallant action displayed by Corporal Ford on this occasion reflects great credit on himself and the military service.
