The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Captain Martin R. Stone, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Staff Intelligence Officer, Naval Forces Far East, from 5 September to 2 November 1950. Despite his multitudinous responsibilities, Captain Stone capably assisted the Assistant Chief of Staff, G-2, Far East Command, in the successful accomplishment of an expanded intelligence mission. His clear perception of all phases of intelligence collection, collation and evaluation and remarkable knowledge were of inestimable value in maintaining coordination among mutually dependent collection agencies. Captain Stone’s prescient judgment, tireless efforts and outstanding achievements contributed materially to the furtherance of the United Nation’s campaign for peace in Korea and reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
