The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal to Corporal Alfred J. Dinco, United States Army, for heroic achievement while serving with the 270th Engineer Combat Battalion, in action on 24 February 1945. With enemy snipers active, these men courageously removed 26 155-mm. artillery shell duds and 12 anti-tank mines from a sewer in Forbach, France, where they had been placed by the enemy, and, at great personal risk, carried the explosives three miles to a place where they would not endanger the lives of others. Their heroic actions prevented these missiles from creating devastation which would have seriously hampered operations and delayed the capture of the city.
