In 1957, while serving as Commanding Officer of the 321st Bomber Wing at Pinecastle Air Force Base near Orlando, Florida, Michael McCoy was testing a B-47 when 2 jet engines exploded and he lost control. He diverted the craft away from heavily populated areas, and he and 3 others, including a pilot with England’s Royal Air Force, were killed when the craft crashed

The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel McCoy and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
