The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private Ulysses S. Adolph (ASN: 36161900), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with the 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action at New Georgia, Solomon Islands, in courageously climbing a giant banyan tree at great personal risk in order to rescue an injured pilot who had become caught in its branches approximately 100 feet above the ground on 12 August 1943. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Private Adolph reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
