The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Technician Fifth Grade Glenn F. Church (ASN: 36162027), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with the 737th Ordnance Company, 37th Infantry Division, in action at Guadalcanal on 9 October 1943. Technician Fifth Grade Church caught a comrade whose clothing was on fire, threw him to the ground, and smothered the flames at the cost of painful burns to himself. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Technician Fifth Grade Church reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
