    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Gerald S. Ashcraft (AFSN: 11396A), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight on the night of 11 October 1952, in Korea. Major Ashcraft distinguished himself by is coolness under enemy fire and the skillful performance of his duties as Aircraft Commander on the control ship of the 3d Bombardment Wing (Light), FIFTH Air Force. In spite of a number of searchlights and heavy flak directed at the aircraft, Major Ashcraft’s crew succeeded in locating the target area and identifying the specific supply areas to be destroyed. Major Ashcraft skillfully maneuvered his aircrafrt so as to avoid the worst areas, yet remained over the target area so that his crew could direct the incoming bombers to their targets. As a result of his courage, Major Ashcraft and his crew can be credited with depriving the enemy of important supplies. Major Ashcraft’s coolness, distinguished flying ability, and expert coordination with his crew exemplify the highest qualities to be found in an Air Force officer. By his outstanding courage and devotion to duty, Major Ashcraft has brought great crtedit upon himself, his organization, and the United States Air Force.
