The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain (Field Artillery) Gordon Hugh Peck (ASN: 0-357893), United States Army, for gallantry in action west of Carmen, Philippine Islands, during the night of 26 and 27 December 1941. During an encountrer with the enemy, Captain Peck not only directed his battery fire outside his armored vehicle, but personally aided in destroying enemy snipers. He continually exposed himself to enemy fire to more efficiently command his troops. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
