Johnson (ASN: 18106488), United States Army, for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy while serving with Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, in the vicinity of Colleville-sur-Mer, Normandy, France, on 6 June 1944. Despite intense enemy artillery, mortar, and machine gun fire directed upon the invasion beach, Sergeant Johnson fearlessly moved about perilous terrain and skillfully assisted in organizing his section for a move inland. Sergeant Johnson’s heroic actions exemplify the finest traditions of the military service.
