The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Captain (Medical Corps) Leon Greenspan (ASN: 0-467017), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with the Medical Detachment, 68th Tank Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, in action in the vicinity of Wassertreudingen, Germany, on 6 August 1945. When fire broke out in an ammunition depot, Captain Greenspan, despite the danger from exploding shells, courageously moved about perilous terrain, fearlessly directed fire fighting groups and skillfully extinguished the blaze, thereby preventing casualties among the men of his organization and saving valuable supplies and equipment. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Captain Greenspan reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
