The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class John LoFrese (ASN: 12017830), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with the 1st Infantry Division, in action in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy, in 1943. When a vehicle had caught fire after contacting an enemy mine, Private LoFrese fearlessly proceeded to the aid of the driver whose clothing was aflame. Private LoFrese’s display of coolness and quick thinking, despite burns on his hands and arms, saved the man from serious injury. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Private First Class LoFrese reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
